Brewery Story

Our Head East Tour took us straight across the state to Green Bay & Door County. Our first stop was at Titletown Brewing.

Titletown is an attractive place, built in an old train depot. They have a good menu and a decent selection of beers on tap.

Loose Caboose received mixed reviews by the group. The selections also included a good IPA (Green 19 IPA), Johnny "Blood" Red, and Railyard Alt. Beeler's Brown was one that was well-received by all!

Steve was disappointed that they were out of their Designated Driver Imperial IPA...

Our second stop was a short walk across the street to Hinterland Brewery. This was truly a highlight of the trip, in many ways. Mitchell, our host, went out of his way to welcome us and give us a first rate introduction to Hinterland. Note that this was all while he was also in charge of setting up a "Taproom Takeover" at Hagemeister Park (more on that later)

The visit at Hinterland started out with some samples in their main level taproom. No 3oz samples here. Mitchell and his staff provided pints and snifters all around. Their selections were excellent - From their staple IPA to coffee stout to the bourbon-barrell doppelbock. Delicious! He also introduced us to their white IPA - "Whitecap".

We were also joined by some friends of Dan & Jan, who took the tour with us and accompanied us to Hagemeister Park.

Mitchell gave us the full tour, with fresh taps right from the source, and another full roll-out in the upstairs tap room, which we had all to ourselves. Notice the bottling line up above. In all our trips, we have found that many of our favorite breweries have bottling lines older than anyone in our tour group. Hinterland is no exception!

A woodpile at a brewery? Don't forget that Hinterland also has an outstanding restaurant. Their menu includes a lot of farm-to-table offerings, including delectables from a wood fired oven.

After finishing up at Hinterland, we joined the HInterland crew for the "Taproom Takeover" at Hagemeister Park. Packer fans will recall that Hagemeister Park was the original field where the Packers played. The area has been revamped into a great river-front entertainment area. We thought it was a great opportunity to grab some snacks and have another Hinterland or two.

Our last brewery stop was at Shipwrecked in Egg Harbor. A popular stop any time of the day, we had to admit that it was not a favorite on this trip. The beers all tasted a bit flat and skunky. We really couldn't recommend any of them. The food was just OK.

We're hoping we just caught them on an off day.

The location, on the other hand, was outstanding, and following dinner, we were able to enjoy a great sunset at the harbor.

... And for the wine lovers in the group
We wrapped up our trip with a selection of Door County wineries.

We started out at Simon Creek, with a full tour and boutiful samples in their tasting room. With minor changes, I think you could convert a winery to a brewery. Hmmmm....

Peninsula Winery also featured a fairly new distillery - Door County Distillery.
